Studio Beta Boards + Migration
What will happen to the Studio boards I already have?
Your Studio Beta boards will be migrated to work in the enhanced version the first time you launch Studio.
My older Studio boards look different, what happened?
Discovery Education migrated all current Studio boards into our enhanced product. Some design elements may have changed in both layout or artistry. If you notice this, you can edit the board in Studio and make appropriate changes before assigning to pupils.
Where can I find my boards that were created in Board Builder?
If you have boards still in our legacy product, Board Builder, you can access these boards through My Content. Click on the My Content tile from your My DE homepage and, if needed, sort the list by Type to find all Board Builder items. From here, you can click the board title to go in to view, edit, assign, or share the board as needed.
General Studio Questions
Does Studio have a read aloud feature?
Yes! On the right side of any Studio board or slideshow, teachers and pupils will find the Immersive Reader icon. Learn more about Immersive Reader.
Does Studio work on my mobile device?
Yes, Studio works on any device, from anywhere, including all mobile and tablet devices. It even allows users to upload pictures or directly from the device into a Studio board.
Does Studio work on all browsers?
Yes, Studio is fully functional on all internet browsers.
Can I print a board?
Due to the digital nature of Studio boards which include video, audio, quiz questions, and other interactive pieces, printing a board does not provide the best experience. However, we do offer a print option from the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of any Studio project.
What file types can I upload to my Studio board?
Uploads are limited to 124 MB. You can upload the following file types to your project:
- Videos: 3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, asf, avi, f4v, flv, m4v, mkv, mov, mp4, mpeg, mpg, mts, qt, wmv
- Images: gif, jpg, jpeg, png

What is the difference between a Studio Board and a Studio Slideshow?
A Studio board has a page canvas that scrolls infinitely, no matter how many modules you add to it! A Studio slideshow has a fixed amount of space and is great for presentations.
Can I convert my Boards to Slideshows and vice versa?
Not yet, but that feature is in active development.
Do my changes save automatically?
Can pupils see what I add to the Notes tab?
No! Notes are designed to be teacher-only. Use the tab to add context to your lessons for yourself, or other educators.
Where did the templates from Studio BETA go? Will they come back?
Yes! The product team is working to enhance the templates and integrate them into Studio.
Assign, Share, & Collaboration
Can teachers and pupils invite each other to collaborate on a board?
At this time, the collaborative editing feature is not live. You can share your board and give others view access. Collaborative Editing is a feature that will be added. If pupils or teachers want to edit a board you create, they can copy the board and make edits and share back with you.
My pupils are not able to edit a board that I assigned to them. How can they edit it?
If it is a board that you have created, you can add a quiz or block module to the board to allow pupils to submit responses to you. If you have found a grab-and-go board in Discovery Education (through search or channels), you will need to copy the board in order to edit it. You can make any changes you'd like, including taking advantage of our new assessment options. Replace any text boxes with a short answer module before assigning to pupils so they can submit their work.
Where can I find boards shared with me?
On your Studio homepage, you can change the filter in the upper right corner to Shared With Me.
What is the difference between share, and assign?
A project must be shared in order to offer the option of Assign. If you share a project with pupils or teachers, they have access to your board or slideshow. Assign provides a copy of the project to pupils. If you have added assessment items, they will not be able to see other responses as they will have their own board.
I assigned a board or slideshow, but need to make an edit to it. What happens?
Once a board is shared and assigned, that version will always appear to pupils. If you need to go back to Edit Mode and make changes, you will want to unassign the project (by finding it in Assignment Manager in the Classrooms button from you’re my DE homepage), make changes, re-share and re-assign the board.
Where do the results of Studio assignments appear?
Studio assignments are now integrated into Discovery Education Classrooms. If you assign a project with no assessment items (i.e. just resources, text, and/or buttons), pupils will have a Mark as Complete button to indicate they are finished. If you assign a project with assessment items, pupils can answer those and then select Submit Assignment. You can access a Dashboard for results. Learn more about this process.
How best can I monitor pupil activity on boards?
Creating a board as an assignment allows you to easily track pupil progress and provide feedback. NOTE: Pupils do not have this option.
Can I distribute a board that is not an assignment?
Yes. Once a board is shared, you can share the URL with teachers and pupils for quick access. You can always return to your draft to make edits, as necessary. If you have already distributed the link, make sure to re-share the board so the edits appear on the board viewed by others. The URL will remain the same. The Share button will turn yellow to remind you to re-share the board after changes have been made.
Can I share boards within Google Classroom or another Learning Management System (LMS)?
Yes. If you want pupils to access a published board, you can share the URL to the board in your Learning Management System. NOTE: Pupils will need to be logged into DE to view the board.
Who can I share my boards and slideshows with?
You can share boards and slideshows with any teacher or pupil in your school. You can also share to any of your classrooms. Try typing the name of the person or group you want to share with after clicking ‘Publish.’
Is there only one link for Sharing now? Will all the older Studio links I have still work?
Yes! We consolidated the links down to a single link that will not change. If you’ve added any links outside of Discovery Education to older Studio boards, they will still route you to the new experience.
Boards in Channels + Search Results
I found a Studio board or slideshow in a channel or search results, now what?
To save it to your Studio homepage, click on the title dropdown and click Duplicate Slideshow (or Board). Once it’s saved to your Studio, you can edit, publish, and assign to pupils to work on.
I found a Studio board or slideshow in a channel or search results and shows an error or it looks wrong, what happened?
Discovery Education migrated all current Studio boards into our enhanced product. If you get an error when clicking on a board, please let us know so we can resolve it! Send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with the link of the board. Additionally, some design elements may have changed in both layout or artistry. If you notice this, click the title drop down and duplicate the board. That gives you the ability to edit the board in Studio and make appropriate changes before assigning to students.
