Espresso News gives children a safe, age-appropriate way to find out what's happening in the world using real events and footage to create lasting, high-impact learning opportunities. It features Daily News, Weekly News, News Bites quiz, News Hunt, Picture of the week, a Newspapers literacy channel and resources for teaching issues related to fake news.

News Features

• Daily and weekly news - In our news channels, you can find the latest daily and weekly news updates alongside the Picture of the day, Quiz and News Hunt.
  
  Our In focus area highlights videos and events that are relevant right now.
  
  You can also find the Daily news archive with the updates from the past week.
  
  
• News Bites - weekly bulletins for Key Stages 1 and 2, covering three or four stories that address the 'Promoting British Values' part of the SMRC curriculum. An accompanying quiz helps aid comprehension.
  
  
• Fake News - a collection of resources designed to raise pupils' awareness of misinformation and disinformation in the media.
  
  
• Picture of the week - a quick and effective way of getting children focused on a single event, encouraging them to make predictions based on visual evidence and to make connections to prior knowledge. It can be used in front of class or be assigned to children. If assigning to children, you could also create a copy of the board and add your own question and answer prompts so that children can record their answers in the board.
  
  
• News Bites Quiz: This is an assignable quiz that pupils can take on their individual devices. Their results will be logged and as a teacher you can see how each child answered.
  
  
• News Hunt: This format is ideal for front of class use. The questions are the same as in the news bites quiz, but also includes questions about the Picture of the week. Work through the questions together until you have helped Scully collect all the bones!
  
  
• Newspapers module - a collection of differentiated newspaper articles and supporting resources to help pupils identify and analyse the features of news reports and use them as a model for their own writing.
  
  
• Learning from the news gives you access to topical stories from around the world, in areas such as climate and environment, historical discoveries, culture and traditions, technology and much more.
  
  
• Working with the news - Our teacher area contains further tips and ideas for how you can integrate the news into your curriculum and use it to develop children’s skills in comprehension, composition, grammar and punctuation.
