We are Discovery Education Europe Limited. We provide online digital resources including videos, activities, worksheets, images and occasionally other things such as classroom contests to help you learn. We call these our Services. You can access our Services through our Websites at www.discoveryeducation.co.uk and www.discoveryeducationglobal.com
We provide Services to student users through their schools (School Users), but you can also occasionally enter competitions and upload content you’ve created via our Websites (Website Users). If you are a School User, your teacher should supervise your use of the Services. However, if you are an Website User entering a competition or uploading some content you’ve created onto our Website, you should only do so with your parent’s/guardian’s consent and in accordance with the relevant terms of entry.
Please read these FAQs carefully. If you find anything difficult to understand, please ask a grown up to explain. If you are a School User, your teachers will be best placed to answer your questions to the extent they aren’t answered in these FAQs.

1. What is Personal Data?
Personal Data means any information which tells us who you are. It could be things like your name and your school email address or which school you go to.
In order to provide our Services to you, and to run the Websites, we collect Personal Data.
2. What kind of Personal Data does Discovery Education collect about me and how does Discovery Education collect it?
For School Users, there will be certain information we need to collect from you so you can use the Services. In most cases, this will only be your first name and last name and your school email address. Sometimes your school may give us additional information like your school’s name and your key stage/class.
For Website Users, in order to enter a competition or upload content, we will require certain contact details from you, so that for example, if you win a competition we can deliver your prize to you. The precise details will depend on the competition and will be clearly stated in the competition’s rules of entry.
For both School Users and Website Users, we also collect information automatically from your computer / device by using small pieces of data called “cookies”. We may also collect information from social media sites when you interact with those sites (like Facebook and Twitter). We do not try to identify you from this information.

3. How does Discovery Education use my Personal Data?
We collect and use your Personal Data to provide you with our Services and access to our Websites and in the case of Website Users, to run competitions. We may also do so for other reasons if it is allowed by or to comply with the law including if you or your parent / guardian give us Personal Data so that we can do something you or they ask us to do.
If you are a School User and your Personal Data is submitted through the Services, or collected by us through the Services, on behalf of your teacher or school, then your school is responsible for the use of that Personal Data. We will only use that data in ways that we are told to do by your school or as required by law. You can look at or you can ask your parent / guardian to look at our Privacy policy and if you have any questions, you or they can talk to your teacher.
When there are important changes to how we collect and use Personal Data, we will make changes to our Privacy Policy and to these FAQs. We will post the new Privacy Policy and FAQs on our Websites, with the date so you can see when we last made changes.
We encourage you to look at our Privacy Policy each time you visit one of our Websites or use our Services to see if there have been any changes. You may need your parent / guardian to help you. 4. Does Discovery Education send my Personal Data to anyone?
In most cases we do not share your Personal Data with anyone other than the people and companies who help us to provide the Services and the Websites or competitions. We are responsible for the data collected from Website Users, but if you are a School User, your school is responsible for such data.
We may have to give your Personal Data to others to protect you, or us, or if the law says we have to do so.

5. Does Discovery Education send my Personal Data to another country?
We are based in the UK, but our head office in the US.
We may engage other companies to provide services to us, which help us to deliver the Services and the Websites to you. We may need to send your Personal Data to those companies and those companies may be in other countries. Some other countries, including the US, may not protect your Personal Data in the same way that it is protected in the UK, but if we need to send Personal Data to companies in those countries, we always put in place safeguards which are required by law to protect your Personal Data.

6. How does Discovery Education make sure that my Personal Data is safe?
We follow strict rules and use technology which is designed to protect your Personal Data from being accidentally lost or used without permission. You should also take care when you handle and share your Personal Data. Do not tell us private things about you or your family.

7. How long does Discovery Education keep my Personal Data?
We will only keep your Personal Data for as long as we need to provide the Services to you and to fulfill the competitions, unless the law says that we must or that we can keep it for longer. We will delete your Personal Data after a certain period of time (in the case of School Users this will be 60 days after their school’s subscription ends).
If we become aware that we have received your Personal Data by accident, we will delete the information as soon as we discover it, unless the law says otherwise.

8. Can I delete my Personal Data?
If you are a School User, your school controls your Personal Data and so you should contact them if you want to delete your Personal Data.
If you are an Website User, you can ask us to delete from our databases any information that you gave us when you entered a competition or uploaded content. We may have to keep some information for internal reasons.
