Like any other programme, to ensure that the Discovery Education platform can connect to our servers and update content, it will need to be allowed through the school network firewall.
In addition, it will also need to be allowed through the PC's Windows Firewall, and possibly even another installed firewall such as AVG, McAfee, Norton etc.
if you are experiencing issues where pages are not loading properly, where videos are not playing, where you are logged on as someone else, or if you are stuck on one page, your school may have to add the urls or subdomains used by Discovery Education to your safe list or 'white list'.
Since all school networks are configured differently, it’s very difficult for us to provide generalised support with firewall issues. However, we would recommend that any url with the domain discoveryeducation.co.uk is added to the school's 'whitelist' or 'safe list' to ensure the devices can access all necessary elements of our programmes. Examples of these urls would be
- http://www.discoveryeducation.co.uk
- https://studio.discoveryeducation.co.uk/
- https://app.discoveryeducation.co.uk/suite
- https://engage.discoveryeducation.co.uk/teacher
- https://coding-app.discoveryeducation.co.uk/
Please note that it may be necessary to include read-ahead cache. This network cache may be at your location or upstream, at your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Caching is the technique of storing frequently visited information in a location close to the requester. A Web cache stores Web pages and content on a storage device that is physically or logically closer to the user, which is closer and faster than a Web lookup. By reducing the amount of traffic on overburdened Web servers, caching provides significant benefits to ISPs, enterprise networks, and end users. Our site is dynamic and to maximize its use, we strongly recommend that it is excluded from any existing caching device.
