To make it quick and easy for your students to log into their Discovery Education accounts, it is possible to create personal QR codes which can be scanned and enable direct access to their account from the device being used.

QR code generation as a Class Teacher

In order to generate QR codes for the class, you will need to open the Classrooms area through the main Discovery Education menu on the left-hand side.

Firstly, select the class that you are creating the QR codes for and then click on the ellipsis icon next to class name.


From the drop-down menu, select Bulk Issue QR codes

You will then be able to select which accounts to generate QR codes for, or by clicking the box above the table, all students will be selected.

Select Generate pupil sign in QR codes to generate the codes for the students.

Once the QR codes are generated, you will be given the option to Print or Download.
Whichever option is chosen, you will be asked to choose a layout:

• Square labels 45mm x 45 mm (Avery L7121-25)
• Individual Pages (one student QR code per page)

If you choose to Download, the QR code file will automatically download onto the device.  Remember to name this file so that you can find it easily at a later date!
If you choose to Print, a print window will then open, allowing you to print off all the QR codes.

Please note that due to GDPR, it is not possible to view the QR codes from the platform, so it is important to save these details at this point.  Once you have navigated away from this screen, you will not be able to view the codes.

Generating QR codes as a School Admin

As a School or Site Admin, you will be able to generate QR codes for the whole school or multiple classes.

To do this, open the Admin Dashboard tile from the homepage, or from the Global Navigation menu on the left-hand side of the screen.

Select Manage School from the top right-hand corner.

Choose Issue Sign in QR codes from the drop-down menu.

The appropriate classes can then be selected or the whole school by clicking on the uppermost box.

Confirm your selection by pressing Generate QR codes from selection.

You will still be given options to Print or Download, and then to choose the layout option.

If Download is chosen, a zip file will automatically be downloaded to your device with files and folders organised by teacher to make distribution easier.

Please note that issuing QR codes gives the students an additional option in the way that they access their accounts.  It does not replace the username and password, and initial passwords will still need to be created by class teachers before the students can login for the first time.

Also if the child or class has previously been issued with a QR code, generating another code will deactivate the previous QR code.  

You will be able to see if a student/class has an existing QR code in the Status field when choosing which students to create QR codes for.

Logging In with a QR code

You can log into the platform using a QR code by choosing the Use QR code option from the main login screen.

The camera on the device will need to be enabled.
Ther QR code should be held up to the camera.  Once scanned, the user will be taken straight to their Discovery Education homepage.
