Once the user accounts have been created and the licenses applied, your school will have access to the Discovery Education platform. However, there a few tasks that need to be completed before it can be used in the classroom.
You will need to enter your username on this page https://app.discoveryeducation.co.uk/learn/signin
Teacher Account Activation
The first time that you log on as a teacher with your username (this will be your school email address), you will be sent an email prompting you to create your password. This will be sent to your work email and should be received within a few minutes, so check in your junk/spam folders if it does not land in your inbox.
After setting your password, you will need to accept our Ts and Cs.
If you are using Microsoft/Google SSO to access the Discovery Education platform, you will not need to set a password, but will still be sent an email request to accept the Ts and Cs.
Pupil Password Set-Up
The next task will be to set up passwords for the pupils in your class.
The class accounts can be found by choosing My Classrooms from the Global Nav menu on the left-hand side of the screen (this is opened by clicking on the three horizontal lines next to the Discovery Education logo.)
You will see any classes that you have been assigned to and by clicking on the ellipsis icon, a list of actions will be shown.
To set passwords for the whole class, choose Bulk Set Passwords.
You can then choose to generate passwords automatically or manually.
Manual passwords
Enter passwords of your choice for each child. The password must be at least 5 characters long and may include letters, numbers or special characters. The password will then be communicated directly to the student.
The email field does not need to be filled in for students.
Auto-generated passwords
This method will automatically create passwords for all the children.
Once you have confirmed and saved the passwords, you will be given an option to save or print a document listing all the pupil passwords.
Due to GDPR guidelines, passwords are not normally visible in the programme so this is the only opportunity to save or print this document.
Microsoft/Google Single-sign-on
If your school is using Microsoft or Google SSO and this has been set up during the account creation, you will not need to set passwords for your pupils as they will simply access their accounts using their SSO log in.
You can use these direct URLs to sign in to the platform using SSO:
Google: https://google.discoveryeducation.co.uk/
Microsoft O365: https://office365.discoveryeducation.co.uk/
QR Codes
It is also possible to create QR codes which make it quick and easy for students to log into their accounts, particularly for the first time. You will find more information in this article.
