Immersive Reader is a Microsoft tool available in each Studio board and slideshow, in STEM Connect and in Health & Relationships.
It assists pupils with reading comprehension by voicing the content and displaying the text for students to follow.
This is especially beneficial for pupils whose first language is not English, for children beginning to read and for children who have dyslexia.
Immersive Reader Benefits:
* Increases fluency for English language learners
* Helps to build confidence for emerging readers learning to read at higher levels
* Offers text decoding solutions for pupils with learning differences such as dyslexia
* Provide translations of words, or the entire text into over 60 languages (over 40 of them can be read aloud)

Using Immersive Reader
Whilst using (whether watching or creating) a Studio Board or a slideshow, any user can click on the Immersive Reader icon on the right-hand side of the screen.
This will open a new screen with the text from the activity.
Voice Speed and Gender
This is altered from the speaker icon in the middle at the bottom of the screen
Font Size, Type and Background
By clicking on the Font icon in the top-right corner of the screen, the user can change the font, its size and also the background or theme of the text screen.
Different coloured background can benefit pupils with visual conditions or those with dyslexia.
Grammar Options
By clicking on the central icon, users can highlight different parts of speech or break each word down into syllables.
Reading Preference
The book icon on the far right-hand side of the screen opens up a menu where adjustments can be made to how the text is read, the language used and also enables the Picture Dictionary.
The text can be translated either for individual words or for the whole text.
A Picture Dictionary can also be toggled on from this menu, providing a visual representation of the word when the user clicks on the word
It is also possible to isolate single lines of the text, or to choose 3 lines of text so concentration can be focused on small amounts of content at a time.
