With an Ask Live Quiz, teachers can facilitate a live activity and ask pupils verbal questions, with them responding from their own devices in a short answer format.
Access Quiz
To access the quiz tool, open the main navigation menu on the Discovery Education dashboard.
Launch Ask Live Quiz
From your Quiz Dashboard, select the Ask Live Quiz button in the upper right corner and give your activity a name. This name is how it will appear to pupils as well as in your Quiz Dashboard for results.
Ask Live Quizzes have two ways for students to join:
-
Invite with Link: Post this link in your school management/information system or any other way you communicate with students. The students will click on this link to access the quiz.
Students will be asked to log into Discovery Education, if they are not already logged in.
Students are able to join as a guest, however, to ensure the data is linked to their individual account, they should log into Discovery Education. - Invite with Code: Post this code in the classroom or in your school management/information system for students to use. The students will click Join Live Activity in the upper right corner of their Discovery Education homepage and enter the code to access.
You can watch students join the activity on this screen or click Join Activity to move to the quiz. At any time, you can click the students icon in the upper right corner to remove students or guests from your quiz.
Once all students have joined the quiz and you are ready to begin, select Unlock Pupil Devices. Teachers can then verbally ask their question, students respond on their own device, and teachers can track responses on the screen.
By default, names and answers are hidden in case a teacher is displaying responses for the entire class. This can be toggled on and off to meet your needs for the moment. Displaying answers without names allows for conversation in the classroom after the question.
As responses come in, teachers can grade them correct or incorrect on their screen. Additionally, select Try Again from the drop down to send it back to the student for a second attempt.
Once you are ready, you can finish the quiz or ask another question. If you end the quiz, the student will then see their individual results and the teacher will be taken to the results dashboard for this quiz.
Exit Ticket
Once an Ask Live Quiz is launched, instead of verbally asking questions or after asking verbal questions, teachers can select the Exit Ticket button to get a pulse on pupil understanding. This will bring up three faces: smile, neutral, frown - for pupils to share how they are feeling about the topic.
Teachers can then get a pulse on their class and their understanding to determine next steps for instruction.
