Find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Discovery Education Quiz.
What kinds of quizzes can be created?
There are three types of quizzes:
- Video Quiz: Educators can embed questions in DE Video content to create quizzes, with a variety of question types.
- Standard Quiz: Educators can create multiformat quizzes, with a variety of question types.
- Ask Live Quiz: Educators can facilitate a live activity and just ask students verbal questions, with them responding from their own devices.
What is the delivery method for quizzes?
There are two delivery methods:
- Assign: Video and Standard Quizzes can be assigned to students to complete on their own within an assigned timeframe.

Launch Now: Video and Standard Quizzes can be launched live. A student will have a code to enter to access the quiz. Launched Quizzes have two options:
- Pupil-led: The student progresses through it at their own pace.

Teacher-led: The teacher controls the pace.
- Video Quiz: The teacher would play the video whole group and questions would appear on the student screen at the marked moments.
- Standard Quiz: The questions appear on the student's screen based on the teacher advancing the questions at their own pace.
What question types are available in Quiz?
- Video Quiz offers 3 types: short answer, poll, and multiple choice
- Standard Quiz offers 7 types: short answer, poll, multiple choice, annotate, draw, multiple select, and audio
How are those shared with different classes?
Quizzes can be launched live, with any participants joining via an activity code. Quizzes can also be assigned through the usual Discovery Education assign flow. Teachers can select single or multiple classes. And, can even drill down into a class and select a group of students.
Can results pass back to a school report?
Quizzes are assigned in the Discovery Education platform and must be completed in the platform. The grades will not pass back to a Learning Management System or similar. A teacher can export the results into a .CSV file.
When do I use Studio Quiz vs Standard Quiz vs Video Quiz?
Ask Live, Standard, and Video quizzes offer the unique opportunity to facilitate a live, synchronous activity, where each student is participating in real time from their own device. These types are great for encouraging full participation, quick check-ins, and formative assessment.
Ask live uniquely allows a teacher to pose questions verbally to their class.
Video quiz uniquely allows a teacher to embed questions at key points within a DE video resource. Standard quiz uniquely adds a variety of question types, including allowing students to respond to questions by drawing or recording themselves.
Studio Quiz uniquely allows teachers to embed questions inside of a larger student project or creation assignment. Studio quiz also allows students to upload or embed content from DE as answers, and is a flexible way to assign content and questions.
Do quiz results show up in Classrooms like other DE assignments?
Any quiz that is assigned to students will appear in Classrooms.
Teachers can edit dates, unassign, and view results from there.
When a teacher clicks view results, it will take them into the Quiz Dashboard to view results.
Any quiz created (assigned or launched live) appears in the Quiz Dashboard. Here, the teacher can grade any teacher-graded items, view results, etc.
Can I share a quiz I created with other teachers for them to use?
At initial launch, teachers can not share a quiz with other teachers. This feature is in active development.
Do questions I use in my own quizzes go into my own bank of questions to use later?
A teacher does not have a bank of questions in their account. But, teachers can access all of their quizzes at any time in My Quizzes.
Can I assign point values to questions?
At initial launch, points will not be assigned to questions, so each question marked correct or incorrect will carry equal weight. This feature is in active development.
Can I rearrange questions in a quiz?
Yes, when editing a quiz or adding questions, teachers can use the left sidebar to rearrange questions.
Can questions be shuffled or assigned in a random order to pupils?
At initial launch, questions can not be shuffled randomly when assigned to students. This feature is in active development.
Is the live quiz code case sensitive?
No, it is not case sensitive.
Does a student need to be logged in to take a quiz?
For assigned quizzes, a student must be logged in to access the assignment.
For live quizzes, we strongly encourage students to log in and select the "Join Live Activity" button on their student homepage and enter the quiz code to access the quiz. If a student uses the join URL to access a live quiz and are not already logged in, they will be asked to enter the code and then either log in or join as guest.
My student joined as a guest, what does that mean for the results?
While we encourage students to log in to access a quiz, a student can join a live quiz as a guest. The guest student will appear as a grey icon, different from other students. The teacher will be able to view the student's data, but it will not connect to the actual student's account for long-range data references. If a student joins your quiz and is not part of your quiz, the teacher can remove the guest from the quiz at any time.
What question types are auto-graded, teacher-graded, or not graded?
- Single Select and Multiple Select questions are auto-graded.
- Poll questions are not graded as they are just informational for the teacher.
- All other questions are teacher graded.
The ability for teachers to enable or disable grading up front when creating a quiz is in active development.
How can I view and grade results?
Any quiz that is assigned to students will appear in Classrooms. Teachers can edit dates, unassign, and view results from there. When a teacher clicks view results, it will take them into the Quiz Dashboard to view results.
Once in the Quiz Dashboard, a teacher can view results for any quiz. Once on a specific set of results for a quiz, a teacher can view results by question or by student and grade them appropriately.
Can I export results from Quiz?
Yes, the results from a quiz can be exported to a .CSV file.
What is the difference between teacher- led and student- led?
Launched Quizzes can be set to two delivery types:

What is Exit Ticket?
When viewing the results for any Live Quiz, a teacher can launch an Exit Ticket. The student will see three faces – happy, neutral, sad – and can select the face to give the teacher a current pulse on their learning so far. At initial launch, teachers can only see a general pulse (% green, % yellow, % red) for the classroom. The ability to see how specific students respond is in active development.
Can I create a video quiz from a video in My content or QuickList?
At initial launch, teachers can only search for videos in the Quiz platform and design a quiz. Or, find a quiz and build an activity from the video player page to make a video quiz. Teachers will not be able to create a video quiz from videos in My content or QuickList. This feature is in active development.
Can a Quiz be retitled after completion?
Yes. Click on the far right icon and edit the quiz title.
Can teachers delete a Quiz attempt in order for a students to retake for a better score?
Quiz attempts can not be deleted; but quizzes can be re-assigned in the same way it was initially assigned to give students another attempt.
